After about half an hour the town thinned out and we crossed into Switzerland (see border crossing below).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For most of the day we followed roads along the Rhine, but after about 20 miles upstream from Basel the Rhine thinned and was dammed by a large Hyro-Electric plant (see below), the highest point reachable by boat on the Rhine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As we approached Zurich the large industrial suburbs of Zurich made the journey a bit of a grind, along with the heat from the road.
